Role at Appleton
Doug co-founded Appleton Partners in 1986. As President and CEO, he is responsible for oversight and day-to-day management of the firm. Along with the company’s Board of Directors, he sets the mission and strategy of the firm. He is also a Portfolio Manager overseeing individual client, trust, endowment, pension and foundation relationships, while serving as a member of Appleton’s Fixed Income and Equity Investment Committees.
The experience Doug brings to the firm spans many years and hails from Boston’s leading Investment and Banking firms. Prior to founding Appleton, he served as Director of Research, Portfolio Manager for Public and Private Clients, as well as Trust Investment Officer. He was actively involved in the Advisory Board of Boston University’s School of Management and one of the founding members of Boston University’s MSIM (Masters of Investment Management) degree program. He oversees funding and administration of special MBA scholarships established at Boston University and Northeastern University, for the benefit of students with concentrations in investment management/research. Doug is a CFA® charterholder.

Doug is actively involved in numerous non-profit organizations and fundraising initiatives, including Franciscan Children’s, The Travis Roy Foundation, Special Olympics Massachusetts, Massachusetts Non-Profit Network, Maine Humanities Council, and the Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain Museum in Brunswick, ME. Doug and his wife live in Cohasset, MA and Cape Neddick, ME.
